Steps to take to prevent or limit the known causes of misbehavior that might otherwise influence my classes:

Effective classroom management is vital in achieving an institution’s curriculum and core curriculum objectives. Therefore the role played by the students and the teachers at large determines the extent to which the set academic targets are achieved. Misbehavior within the student fraternity must henceforth be managed promptly and effectively to avert any threats to realizing classroom success (Bennett, 2021).

Students develop certain unwanted behaviors that affect their classroom performance. Research shows that some of these behaviors similarly impact the performance of classmates and their inter-relations. Most common behaviors include but are not limited to stealing from other class members, annoying colleagues through provocative gestures, teasing, calling each other names, and picking at one another. In some instances, the student engages in disruptive activities during class time by shouting, inappropriately laughing, and even causing accidents during instruction. There are circumstances where a learner deliberately falsifies statements or lie so as to get another student in trouble with friends or administration (Al Qahtani, 2016).

Accordingly, it is crucial to underscore the leading causes of the misbehaviors mentioned above within the learning environment and formulate proactive ways to limit and prevent the said causes. First, one of the main reasons students misbehave is seeking attention from others. Such students will tend to be excessively silly or make fun of others just to be noticed. The best method to address attention-seeking behavior is not to overly engage with such students unless it interferes with the rest of the class members. The other way of responding to the behavior is by showing positivity, smiling with eye contact, and even engaging the student through constructive classroom work that would keep them busy and recognized (Bennett, 2021).

The other known cause for student misbehavior is the desire to have power and control over the rest of the student body. The power-hungry students often engage in unnecessary arguments and confrontations, including not following simple laid down regulations and rules at school. Some helpful tactics to employ to avert students with a high desire to control others is to avoid confrontation with the person in question. Second, it is advisable to accord respect to the learner’s private space.

Additionally, providing direction and varied choices to work with for a given task would limit the misbehavior. It may also be helpful to provide the student with an avenue to voice their concerns in class, either during class meetings or group sessions. Students who have developed a habit of controlling their classmates should also be addressed in a soft and respectful tone to avoid any spark in emotions and eventual confrontation (Bennett, 2021).

Boredom is another cause of student misbehavior. Some students may begin engaging in mischievous activities during class time, distracting others, whispering, or giggling due to being bored. As a result, the learning objective is missed, and the rest of the students fail to achieve instructional objectives. The most proactive way to eliminate boredom in class is to engage in challenging academic activities that require the active participation of all members.

Students are always challenged when they have engaged in problem-based learning exercises. It also helps them to have stamina in class and enjoy each lesson to the fullest. Planning for lessons adequately and incorporating exiting learning activities such as group sessions and competitive interactions with the sessions illuminates the classroom and reduces boredom, thereby reducing prospects of misbehavior among students (Al Qahtani, 2016).
