The change that is being dicussed above it’s about how Eric‘s mother in the story constantly wants to find a Man that will cover her and her son financially and change their lives completely. While Eric basically doesn’t talk to anybody not even his own mother which is reluctantly a way
of hinting that he doesn’t want his life to change by his mother meeting another man. He wants his life to stay the same and that is why he is resistant to change.
